Gays, Blacks and Hollywood



While most of America was still treating homosexuality as a mental illness, there was widespread acceptance of gays among the black community. Subsequently, there has been this wink-wink, nudge-nudge “pact’” between queers and blacks dating back to the early days of film making. This is why, going all the way back to the 1930s, you rarely see a black or gay person portrayed negatively on film.
